Design a 3D‑Printed Phone Stand

A phone stand is a genuinely useful print and a great lesson in angles and stability. This design uses a back rest and a lip, sized to your phone, with no supports needed.

Step‑by‑step

  1. Open the editorStart a new design — free and in your browser.
  2. Measure your phoneNote your phone’s thickness with a case on (often 9–12 mm). The cradle lip needs to be a little deeper than this.
  3. Build the baseAdd a box about 80 × 70 × 6 mm as the footprint. A wider base keeps the stand from tipping.
  4. Add the back restAdd a second box and tilt it to roughly 65° from the base — a comfortable viewing angle. Join it to the base.
  5. Add the front lipPlace a small box at the front of the base to catch the bottom of the phone. Leave a gap between lip and back rest wider than your phone’s thickness so it slides in.
  6. Add a charging cutoutCut a channel through the lip/base with a box marked as a hole, so the charging cable can reach the port.
  7. Combine and exportJoin all the solid parts, cut the holes, run the printability check, then export the STL. It prints flat with no supports.

Pro tip

Add a few millimetres of rounding to the cradle edges so they do not scratch your phone.
